POVERTY. Jessica Park

This is a picture of an Indonesian young boy sorting oyster at a slum area in North Jakara. Most of the children in the country have to drop out of their school and engage in harsh labor to afford money. Due to this severe poverty, poor and little children such as a boy in the picture never could not have even basic education.
This also led to decline of nation's intellectual level and eventually the nation without intellectual people will not able to develop. It is like a bad circumstance that they are having for a long time, however it is almost impossible to make dramatic change in economic condition to them due to the unescapable cycle they are struggling.

Children are suppose to have full of dream and desire toward their future. Their eyes are bright with hopes and always look for new things. However the boy in the picture, who is hiding his eyes seem to symbolize the absence of hope and desire. He would just sit there all they long sorting bunch of oysters continuously without even knowing what he wants to really achieve in the future. He would just labor because his parents told him to do. It is his only duty. How miserable the reality is to the poor boy. Poverty have stolen everything from him and the picture represents it.
